Charitable Work: Tibetan Monks in Nepal
During
the Cultural Revolution, over 6,000 Tibetan monasteries were destroyed
by Chinese aerial bombardment and thousands of monks and nuns were driven
to flee their homeland. Today the religious culture of Tibet is faced
with extinction. Every day, refugees of the Tibetan Diaspora make the
arduous journey to Nepal in order to enter into monastic life. These refugees
are penniless, entirely dependent upon the generosity of those who hold
dear the preservation of the Dharma. Your sponsorship will provide a monk
with food, clothing and accommodation and will cover the necessary expenses
for well-being and good health in a life solely dedicated to spiritual
education and training. The monks include sponsors and their families
in daily prayers.
$250 USD per year fully sponsors a monk but any amount is welcome; some
monks rely on smaller donations from several sponsors for their support.
Partial sponsorship is typically $50-$100 USD per year. You can also contribute
to a general fund that provides money to monks without sponsors.
