Thangkas for Charitable Donations

Two members of our sangha on Denman Island, Mitra Ghaffari and Mark Prior, as the co-directors of MiMa Fine Art Publishers are offering to gift their beautiful Thangkas to individuals and organisations who support by donation the Dharma Fellowship Hermitage Meditation Retreat on Denman Island, or the sponsorship programs for Tibetan refugee children and monks. They are not offered for sale anywhere—they are only available in this way.

The donor may choose a Thangka from the catalogue presented here. They are being given in three sizes:

  1. For a donation of $2500 or more: At an image size of 40" wide x up to 59" high, on canvas, coated with a UV and abrasion resistant liquid laminate, editions of 100. These can be hung like scrolls or stretched over wooden frames (known as "stretchers").
  2. For a donation of $500 or more: On 24" x 30" watercolor/rag paper, editions of 500.
  3. For a donation of $150 or more: On 8.5" x 12" heavyweight watercolor/rag paper, open editions.

All editions have an archival rating of approximately 100 years.

About the Thangkas

Also spelt "Tangkas", "Thankas" and "Tankas".

These are extremely fine quality, temple size, limited editions of Thangkas. The originals are from the Dharma House collection, San Francisco, administered by Bhikshu Karma Tinley.

All the originals were executed by masters, and it must be emphasised that these museum quality Thangkas are absolutely exquisite, vibrant and incredible in detail. Outside of a few select museums and Buddhist centers, access to Thangkas of this quality and size is extremely rare. Even at these impressive large sizes, the intricacy of the details are to be marveled at. Find out more about MiMa's high resolution digital reproduction.

Canvas Stretching/Gallery Wrap

If you are to receive a canvas edition Thangka and would like MiMa to stretch it for you please contact them directly. They can stretch canvases with "museum wrap" edges (a border printed in black or a color to compliment the image, which wraps around the side of the wooden stretcher) and ship them ready to hang. The cost will be CAD$250 plus shipping. Once they know your requirements they will indicate a lead time. Please email contact@mimagallery.com.
