Sundays with Lama Lodoe Rabsal Rinpoche

The Hermitage is very happy to announce that Lama Lodoe Rabsal Rinpoche (Sidney McQueen-Smith) will give teachings on Denman Island this Fall and Winter. If you are interested in meditation practice and the Buddhist Path, you are likely to find these talks accessible, thanks to Lama's clear and personal teaching style.

The first talk will be on Sunday, November 1st, on "The Life of the Buddha and the Four Noble Truths." Talks will continue every second Sunday starting at 2pm, and continuing for about 2 hours. Please bring your favorite cushion, if you wish. There is no charge; the Hermitage operates on a donation basis. If you have any questions, please call 250-335-9146.

We will gather at 3277 Kirk Road, unless we end up needing more space. There is no registration or formal commitment. We are not sure how many people to expect but hope there will be enough response to continue these teachings through the winter. Future topics will include:

  • Aspiration
  • Metta
  • Interdependent Origination
  • The 5 Hindrances
  • The 4 Foundations of Mindfulness
  • The 16 Stages of Insight
  • The 4 stages of Awakening and the 10 Fetters

  • The Seven Factors of Enlightenment
  • Vipassana
  • Satipattana
  • Ngondro (Preliminary Vajrayana Practices)

  • Saddhana and Mantrayana Practices
  • The 37 Practices of Bodhisattvas
  • The Skandas

Lama Sidney has been a Dharma practitioner for over 40 years, both in the world and as a monk. His principal teachers include His Holiness the 16th and 17th Karmapa, His Eminance Situ Rinpoche, and first and foremost, the great Canadian master, Karma Namgyal Rinpoche. His specialties include the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and particularly the path and method of Awakening while living in the world. His two talks on these subjects at the Hermitage this past summer were deeply appreciated by all who attended and we feel very fortunate that he has agreed to come back to our island.
